A man in his 40s died in a knife attack last night after he was slashed across the throat in Oxford.

Police and paramedics were called following the incident in Hollow Way, Cowley, at 10.40pm.

Initially it was reported that the man had suffered a stab wound, but the Oxford Mail understands that the victim has since died and a murder inquiry has been launched.

Detectives have sealed off an area in Hollow Way to conduct a forensic search and an investigation is continuing.

So far, there has been no official response from Thames Valley Police.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance declined to comment.
