Firefighter Bob Paterson is putting his heart and soul into his campaign to stress the importance of wearing seatbelts.
How astonishing that so many people forget or don't bother to belt up when starting their car journeys.
Every time police launch a roadside operation, you can bet your life they will stop a large number of unrestrained drivers and passengers risking their lives.
Mr Paterson knows more than most how dangerous such behaviour can be.
His 13-year-old son Dale died in a car crash on holiday in Italy because he was not wearing his seatbelt correctly.
Since his death in August, 2005, his father has devoted many hours to his campaign.
He has cycled more than 1,000 miles and toured schools to highlight seatbelt safety and raise money for charity.
Now his efforts have been rewarded - he has won the national Firefighters Charity Supporter of the Year award.
Some may accuse Mr Paterson of becoming obsessive.
We believe that the message he is delivering is a vital one.
