Saturday night at the Cellar got off to an atrocious start...
After getting drenched in the queue during what felt like Britain's very own monsoon season, I was confronted by a creature with a foul temper demanding a £5 entry fee.
The beast on the door unleashed upon me most of the bad language that exists in the English language.
However, not wanting to be ejected from the premises before I even got in, I bit my tongue so hard there might have been blood on the floor.
I paid my entry fee like a good boy - then waited at the bar for literally 20 minutes to buy a drink!
But if the staff at the Cellar want a scapegoat for this less than favourable review, don't point to the guy on the door. It's not to do with him - it's because their club just isn't very good.
Once inside, we spotted the latest band from Oxford to have made it big: Foals.
But we decided to take a left turn away from celebrity and made our way to the back, which was the only place where we could find a seat - the place was packed!
After a few particularly tangy Strongbows the dance floor beckoned, as the music gradually mixed from electro into a more dance orientated set.
We squeezed onto the busy podium-style dance floor and sweated for a good few songs, but then the music took a nosedive into a trip-hop vibe and I lost the urge to continue. Some determined people carried on, but it was back to the bar for me!
If you want an indie/electro night on a Saturday then get to the Carling Academy for Trashy Vs Transformation.
I returned the week after my original review of the night to find that Transformation downstairs was incredibly busy. I had felt lost at sea the week before, but upon my return I felt as though I was swimming the English Channel - loads of boats!
There was some good music at the Cellar, but there were also rude staff and painfully long periods of waiting at the bar for a drink. Abort, Retry, Fail?
FAIL!
