Everyone who knew David Brunton agreed that he was an inspirational teacher.
So it is fitting that his memory should be perpetuated in a scholarship at the school, where pupils benefited from his exceptional classroom skills.
It is just a year since Dr Brunton fell to his death from the top of the University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Radcliffe Square, Oxford.
The reason for his death will probably never be known - the coroner recorded an open verdict at his inquest as he could not be sure that he intended to kill himself.
But his name will live on, with less privileged boys now having the opportunity to go to Magdalen College School.
Dr Brunton's widow, Jenny Liddiard, has made the scholarship fund her personal crusade.
So far, she has raised more than £40,000, enough for the award to be given for the first time.
The lucky recipient will start at Magdalen in September.
Ms Liddiard hopes that more can be raised so that interest on the invested money will enable many more pupils to benefit in future years.
Dr Brunton was passionate about opening Magdalen to boys from all walks of life.
Thanks to his family and other wellwishers, they now have that opportunity.
