Oxford East MP Andrew Smith and his wife Val have been conspicuous by their silence over the current furore about the potential misuse of MPs' Parliamentary expenses.
I'm sure I'm not the only taxpayer who would be very interested in knowing: 1. How much of the £83,308 Andrew Smith claimed for staff in 2006/7 was paid to his wife?
2. How much of the £21,657 Mr Smith claimed for additional costs in 2006/7 went towards paying the mortgage or mortgage interest on the house the Smiths own in central London?
3. Average London property prices have more than trebled since the Smiths bought their London house. If the taxpayer is indeed helping them pay their mortgage, what exactly are the Smiths planning to do with this huge profit when they come to sell up?
