I must protest strongly at your misleading front page headlines, Daylight robbery, Our penny-pinching Government alters tax laws to steal money you want to give to charity (Oxford Mail, March 11).
In fact, as we now know from the Budget, the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has listened to the concerns of charities, and is continuing to allow them to claim the previous amount of tax relief.
However, even had he not done so, it would have been dishonest to suggest the Government was stealing the money.
What charities expected to lose was not money kept by the Government, but money that was to be returned to people in their pay packets.
What charities feared was that many people would simply hold on to their reduced tax bill, without realising that part of it had previously gone to charity.
The Oxford Mail should be ashamed of itself for publishing such a tendentious and inaccurate headline for the story.
