Seven hamsters were found dumped on the doorstep of a pet shop in Marston.
The mostly tan and white-coloured animals had been left in a green plastic recycling box outside pet shop Pads 'n' Paws in Cherwell Drive with a note saying "please look after me".
The hamsters are in good health and will be made ready for re-homing.
RSPCA officer Andy Eddy said: "At least these hamsters were left in a place where they would be found - many abandoned animals aren't so lucky.
"Owners need to realise they can get help if they feel they cannot look after their pet and should never just dump them."
