A woman is hoping to tackle one of the world's tallest peaks in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to her heart.
Sally Kingett, office manager at King Alfred's Sports and Community College in Wantage, will scale a 4,200m Andean Peak before making her way along the high mountain passes to Machu Picchu in Peru as part of a five-day trek in May.
Ms Kingett, 53, from Stanford in the Vale, hopes to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care in memory of her brother Tim Kingett, who died in January 2006, aged 43, and her father Jim, who died of a heart attack 10 weeks later.
She said: "This will be one of the most challenging things I've ever done. But I will be spurred on through every mile knowing the money I raise will help people who are facing the far greater challenge of living with cancer.
"My motivation for doing this challenge is my brother. Tim's Macmillan nurse Beryl was a source of comfort and support to him and to us.
"Tim loved the outdoors and embraced a challenge. He would very much have approved of me undertaking the trek."
Ms Kingett has already raised £1,400. To sponsor her call 01367 718221.
