Six motorists were caught breaking the 30 mph speed limit during a two-hour police operation in Hailey, near Witney, this morning.
Just one of the speeding motorists was given a fixed penalty notice after being caught driving at 44mph on the B4022 Delly Hill, in Hailey.
Five other drivers, who were recorded doing between 35mph and 39mph by a police laser speed gun, were not prosecuted as they agreed to take advice on the dangers of speeding from Oxfordshire County Council's road safety team.
The Abingdon Road Policing Unit ran the operation after receiving a large number of complaints from local residents about the speed of traffic travelling through the village.
Pc Mark Pilling said: "It was not a failure that we did not catch many people. That was not our goal.
"We listened to residents concerns about speeding here and we hope our operation means the next time these motorists travel through the village they will reduce their speed."
