I wish to complain about the electronic system operated on the 35/35A bus route.
I arrived at the bus stop in Kennington and the monitor showed six minutes to the next bus. It showed a second bus was due to arrive in 22 minutes.
The time shown on the electronic system was 08:18 which agreed with my watch.
The bus finally arrived at 08:40 and arrived in the city centre at 09:05. Total journey and waiting time was more than 45 minutes.
The driver was an apprentice with a mentor standing behind him for the whole journey, assisting him every step of the way.
The return journey was not much better. When I arrived at St Aldate's, the electronic system showed the time as 14:29 and the two minutes to the next bus quickly changed to 'Due'. The bus arrived 15 minutes later.
Every bus driver disowns the system, stating that it is nothing to do with the bus company. Then why have it? Who is paying for it?
The 35/35A route must be one of worst routes serving the city and for the past two years, very little has been done to improve the service.
Excuses of traffic jams in Didcot and Abingdon as the main cause of the problem are abundant and, of course, the roadworks in St Aldate's have helped to add to the list of excuses.
Perhaps a bus every 10 minutes instead of every 15 might help or having an extra bus to slot in when needed.
Training new drivers outside the rush hour might be something else that managers might like to consider.
Another option would be to open up the route to other companies, Stagecoach, for instance, offering an alternative to the Oxford Bus Company.
