A new musical produced by a creative team on both sides of the Atlantic hits the stage in Oxford this evening.
It Can Happen was written by Californian author Rich Mitchell, with music by fellow American and acclaimed composer Brett Strader and directed by Oxford-based Ian Flintoff.
Despite the 5,000 mile distance between the creative team, Covid-19 lockdowns and personal issues, the collaboration comes to ahead this evening when the show is performed for the first time.
It Can Happen is the true-life story of an American family, involved in fighting in Europe during the Second World War. The musical follows the family beyond the war as a mystery is pieced together in front of the audience.
Mr Flintoff, who has worked with the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, said the musical is a “work of love” and urged theatre lovers to “make it if you can”.
“It was done by dedicated artists despite lock-downs, coronavirus, family difficulties, sudden commitments and problems, the hard times we’ve all known on both sides of the Atlantic.
“A work of deep affection, professional dedication, true-life inspiration,” Mr Flintoff said.
The show will run at from this evening (September 7) until Saturday (September 10) at the Old Fire Station in George Street.
Tickets are £15 but you can pay £10 or £17.
