Singing sensation Zoe Mace is to star in a fundraising extravaganza to raise cash for abandoned orphans in Bulgaria and a hospice in Oxford.

The 13-year-old from Freeland, near Witney, has masterminded Aid on a High Note, a marquee concert at Millets Farm, near Abingdon, on Saturday, April 19.

All profits from the concert will be split between the Abandoned Bulgarian Children's Trust and Helen and Douglas House hospice in Oxford.

Also on the bill will be Samantha Davis, a star of West End show Chicago, Viva la Diva with European Latin American Dance gold medallist, Laetitia Burns, and The Young Guns String Octet.

Zoe, a pupil at Cokethorpe School, said: "In December, I was invited to meet Kate Blewett, who filmed the documentary Bulgaria's Abandoned Children, shown on BBC2 last November.

"I was so horrified to see how these poor children were treated and just could not stop thinking about what a dreadful life these children have everyday.

"They are in constant pain and suffering, and I just wanted to help Kate stop the abuse.

"All I could think about was, if I had been Bulgarian, my little sister Jodie who was born with Down's Syndrome, would have ended up in one of those horrid places and that is just too awful to think about.

"So I donated my voice and sang In The Bleak Midwinter on their video appeal, which is posted on You Tube.

"When Kate sent me the finished video I emailed the link to everyone in mum's address book and I had people responding straight away."

Zoe's mum, Linda, added: "Zoe asked me what she could do to help after she had seen the film - she insisted on doing something."

Local companies have been asked to sponsor the event by either buying tickets, sponsoring a table for £100, donating a prize or sponsoring silent auction packages of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Ms Blewett will be introducing the evening along with Sister Frances Dominica from Helen House.

Zoe, inspired by her late sister Jodie, has supported a number children's charities during the past three years and has raised £120,000.

The teenager inspired local businessman Peter Florey, of Simon Florey & Son Marquee Hire, to support the project and provide a marquee free of charge.

Tickets cost £160 each and include a lavish three-course meal provided by Elegant Cuisine.
