Commuters are furious as rail issues are causing disruptions between Oxfordshire and London.

Chiltern Railways announced on Twitter at 6.08 am this morning that defects with a tunnel mean there are no services between Oxford and London Marylebone.

Instead, trains will terminate at Harrow on the Hill or High Wycombe.

Commuters commenting on the announcement were angry at not being told earlier.

One commuter said: “What a joke. Severe disruption every time I try to travel. Three times in the last seven days. You can’t make this up.”

Another commuter asked: “So why hasn’t this been posted before everyone got up and went to their stations?”

A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways replied to the comments: “Our social media feed is managed between 6am to 10pm. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

Chiltern Railways have said that other train services are accepting their tickets, including West Midlands, London Northwestern, Avanti West Coast and Cross Country UK.

The current service from Oxford is to West Ruislip - and Chiltern Railways have announced that ticket acceptance is in place with Transport for London from there.

On the London Underground from West Ruislip, take the Central Line to Oxford Circus, and from there, take the Bakerloo Line to Marylebone.
