A group of firefighters are travelling to western Europe today to compete in a rescue challenge.

The Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Extrication Team are travelling to Luxembourg today to participate at the World Rescue Challenge 2022.

They will be competing against 35 teams from across the world and take part in a number of rescue scenarios where they will be assessed on command, technical ability and casualty care.

The event also allows the team to learn new techniques and skills which can be brought back and shared across the brigade.

An extrication team will be experts in the process of removing a vehicle from around a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle collision, when conventional means of exit are impossible or inadvisable.
