Many of our roadside verges are in a disgraceful state.
Drivers and their passengers treat them as a dump for the cans, bottles, plastic bags and other rubbish they don't want to take home.
The result is that you see unsightly litter almost everywhere you go.
Some councils manage to tidy the verges, but others don't, on grounds of cost and because roads would have to be closed for safety reasons while the work is carried out.
Of course, there wouldn't be a problem in the first place if people behaved more responsibly and didn't throw stuff out of their windows.
But then, in many respects, we're a dirty race, doing the best we can to ruin our wonderful planet.
