Drivers are being warned that petrol has been stolen from vehicles in the Vale of White Horse area.

Police in the Vale today are urging motorists to take care of their vehicles following three fuel thefts.

Between 5.30pm on January 10 and 6.30am on January 11, a vehicle had its fuel lines cut and the fuel stolen at Greenways landfill site in Sutton Courtenay.

This happened to another vehicle at the landfill site between 7pm on February 18 and 7am on February 21.

And a vehicle parked at Shrivenham Park Golf Club had fuel stolen during the early hours of February 28.

Roger Foster, crime reduction adviser for Thames Valley Police, said: "With the rising costs of fuel all motorists are advised to pay particular care to keep their vehicles safe.

They should:

  • Ensure vehicles have lockable filler caps
  • If you have to park your vehicle in the road always try to park in well lit areas
  • Always check your fuel gauge after leaving your vehicle unattended to make sure there is the correct amount in the tank
  • For businesses and farms with their own fuel tanks supplying a fleet of vehicles, check perimeter security, lighting, CCTV and intruder alarms are all working correctly.
