Sir - I write with regard to the speed camera positioned on the east-bound carriageway of the main road through Wheatley.
This camera is almost totally hidden behind another road sign.
This, I believe, is illegal, as I understand that a camera must be clearly visible for 100 yards in the direction of approach. Some time ago, I advised the Thames Valley Safety Camera Partnership of this 'oversight', and was advised that they would notify Oxfordshire County Council highways accordingly.
Today, I again passed the site and found the camera still obscured by a road sign. This is dangerous in itself, and may provoke sudden braking at the last minute as an automatic reaction from drivers approaching the camera, even if they are under the speed limit limit. May I suggest that this is a deliberate ploy to catch and fine drivers, regardless of the applicable rules, and advise any drivers among your readers who have been caught on this camera to consider an appeal, with a view to getting the charges dropped, the fines returned and points removed from their licence. Surely, the laws apply to us all.
