COVID vaccinations centres run by Oxford Health will close this week to get ready for the autumn vaccination campaign.

Oxford Health’s three large scale vaccination centres at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford, the Guttmann Centre in Aylesbury, and the Broad Street Mall in Reading, will be closed until September 11, ahead of the new phase of the campaign.

From today (September 5), NHS staff will begin vaccinating care home residents and staff and people who are housebound.

The national booking service will open next week ahead of the wider rollout, due to start on September 12, with the NHS inviting those who are most susceptible to serious illness from covid and those aged 75 and over to book an appointment.

Some GP practices will also contact their registered patients directly to invite them to a local vaccination site.

Shafik Nassar, Oxford Health’s head of service for vaccination, said: “The NHS will contact people when it is their turn to get their autumn booster. I want to strongly encourage anyone who is invited and eligible for the jab to get it as quickly as possible – it will give you the best protection against COVID this winter.

“There will be a wide range of places that people can get their jabs which will include GP surgeries, community pharmacies and, of course, our vaccination centres in Oxford, Reading and Aylesbury. This makes it easy and convenient to get your jab locally.”
