Drivers in parts of Oxfordshire faced a frosty start to their journey into work this morning followed by flurries of snow.

Brief snow showers moved across the South East, but were not expected to last throughout the morning, according to the Met Office.

Spokesman Helen Chivers said major routes including the motorways had been gritted in advance of the freeze overnight.

She said: "Drivers out first thing need to take extra care on the minor routes which have not been gritted.

"Snow is not unusual at this time year and you can still get cold nights right up until the middle of April.

"We are expecting another frost tonight and then temperatures will rise to about nine degrees Celsius tomorrow, followed by rain on Thursday. We are not predicting more snow."
