A 35-TONNE crane was called into action to complete renovations on an Oxford lock.
Iffley Lock's gates, which weigh four tonnes were returned to the lock after being refurbished. Lock keeper Ferd Orchard is pictured watching the operation.
Al Wells, operations manager for the Environment Agency, said the job had been complicated by the lack of roads leading to the lock. He said: "We had to float the crane down the River Thames on a series of pontoons from the university boathouses, which involved getting it under Donnington Bridge.
"We only had half a metre to spare under the bridge - it is a tribute to the skill and experience of the tug crews that they managed to get it through safely."
