Two men have been arrested after a man was left in a critical condition in hospital, following an early morning assault on Cowley Road.

The incident took place at around 12.05am this morning (September 3), a group of men were ejected from Heat African Bar and Restaurant on Cowley Road after an altercation in the venue.

The altercation continued outside and a man in his thirties sustained a serious head injury.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Two men, aged 29 and 31, both from Oxford, have been arrested on suspicion of GBH.

Both remain in police custody.

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses following the assault.

Investigating officer detective inspector Rob Platt said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to this incident to please come forward.

“Also, if you have any CCTV footage in the area or any dash-cam footage if you were driving in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.
