Two men have been arrested for possession of a bladed article and other offences during a city centre incident, which caused a huge crowd to gather and film the police on their phones.

The pair from Reading were arrested yesterday evening at around 5.45pm in St Aldates.

During the arrest, six police officers had one of the offenders pinned to the ground.

This caused a huge crowd of around 75 people gathered to film the incident on their phones and watch the proceedings, before some members of the public confronted the officers.

The men were arrested for offences relating to possession of a bladed article, racially aggravated public order and possession of cannabis.

The males are still in custody at this time.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of a large public interest in these arrests due to the location and time they took place and would ask that anyone with information contact us via our website quoting 43220395309.”
