DAREDEVIL abseilers will once again jump off a city centre church, in memory of a popular congregation member.

Muriel Hunt died in June of last year, aged 99, following a remarkable life which saw her work as a nurse and later tirelessly volunteer for a range of organisations.

Last year, in her memory, members of St Mary Magdalen Church jumped off the roof of the Magdalen Street place of worship, and in doing so, raised more than £10,000 for an assortment of good causes.

The second Muriel’s Day will take occur to coincide with the Open Doors weekend in Oxford.

Open Doors, organised by Oxford Preservation Trust, is to take place on September 10-11.

The annual event sees places which are not usually accessible to the public open their doors to ‘celebrate heritage and culture across all walks of the city’s life’.

Mrs Hunt was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2017, following a career in nursing which saw her work at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital in 1959.

When she retired, she continued to help the community by volunteering at her local Oxfam shop in Cowley Road and at the League of Friends West Wing cafe at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
