According to your article on the excellent pilot scheme in East Oxford to give police helmet mounted cameras (Oxford Mail, February 26), city councillor Mohammed Altaf-Khan, the Liberal Democrats' portfolio holder for a safer city, has refused to back the scheme, saying: "I would like to know more about this from the police first".
Can this be right?
The equipment has been piloted, found to be very successful and now the police have ordered 25 more for use in Oxfordshire.
In the same article, Pc Mike Ellis says that the pilot demonstrates that these cameras will help police collect evidence to tackle antisocial behaviour and street crime.
Labour councillors are committed to giving the police the tools they need to fight crime, and supporting this scheme seems like a no-brainer to me.
Come on, Mr Altaf-Khan -- after nearly two years running the Town Hall, it's time for a bit less talk and a bit more action on crime and antisocial behaviour from the Lib Dems.
