DISCOUNT chain Lidl plans to open a store in Witney.
Lidl is holding an exhibition at the town's Langdale Hall on Thursday, from noon to 5pm.
No formal application has yet been deposited with West Oxfordshire District Council, but the company says it will unveil proposals for a site in Ducklington Lane.
Lidl is a German-based company and its nearest store to Witney is at Watlington Road, Oxford.
The Witney store would be on a vacant site next to the drive-through McDonald's in Ducklington Lane and have spaces for 63 cars.
At 800 square metres of floorspace, it would be smaller than the company's Watlington Road outlet (1,200 square metres).
A company spokesman said: "We have been looking to build a store in Witney as part of our ongoing expansion programme throughout the UK.
"The event is to allow traders and residents the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the proposed development."
If allowed, the new-build addition to the town's retail trade would be on top of the Marriotts Close redevelopment and further shops planned for the Woolgate Centre.
