A period of public consultation on the Post Office's area plan for Oxfordshire started on February 5.
The Post Office's network change programme involves 2,500 closures throughout the UK, and the introduction of 500 replacement 'outreach' services.
This programme follows the Government's decision that, because of continuing financial losses and falling customer numbers, some post offices should close. We at Postwatch, the independent watchdog for postal services, accept the rationale for change.
Our priority is to ensure customers and local stakeholders are aware of the Post Office's proposals and engage in the consultation process. We encourage customers to take the time to consider what the proposals will mean for them, then send their views to the Post Office.
Meaningful local engagement is the best way of ensuring an outcome which minimises inconvenience.
Postwatch has given its initial thoughts to the Post Office on the area plan for Oxfordshire, and will submit a final response before the end of consultation, on March 17.
We urge everyone concerned to find out more by contacting the Post Office on 08457 223344, at www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange or visiting their local branch and asking for further details.
