Children have recorded heartfelt Mother's Day messages to the camera in Blackbird Leys and Cowley.

Loving messages were left by youngsters of all ages who took up the Oxford Mail's invitation to pop along to Delteys Supermarket in Blackbird Leys Road on Thursday and Tesco in Cowley today.

The paper encouraged children to create a video recording to let their mothers know just how they feel about them. And video journalists have now edited the snippets together in a film sequence to be broadcast online on Mother's Day itself - Sunday, March 2.

Mum-of-five Sonia Denmark, from Falcon Close, Blackbird Leys, went along to Delteys with her children, but left a sweet message for her mum as well, saying she had been so kind to her during her 37 years.

Later, Alisha Paintin, 11, also from Blackbird Leys, told her mother: "I just want to tell you how much I love you and that this Mother's Day is going to be the best.

"We have had bad times in life but I promise you this is going to be one of the best times."

Sister Aneaka, nine, added: "I hope you have a great time. Just sit and relax and I'll do all the work. I love you so much."

Khiana, 11, from Greater Leys, said she hoped her mother had a nice day and got lots of "hugs and kisses" on Mother's Day, while Iman St Clair, also nine, from Blackbird Leys, said: "I hope my mum has the best Mother's Day - I love her lots."

Oxford Mail editor Simon O'Neill said the idea of videoing Mother's Day messages had been a great success. He said: "The messages left by children were really sweet. I hope mothers find the video heartwarming when they visit our website."
