My friend, Jane Reeve, cogently proposes that, for ecological and other reasons, the number of cars per household should be restricted (Oxford Mail, February 19).
She is, however, easily intelligent enough to appreciate that, in a quasi-democratic set-up, successful politicians largely have to offer the predominantly selfish and ignorant electorate what it wants, not what is good for it.
