A COMMUNITY attempting to protect bollards and planters within a low traffic neighbourhood (LTN) has been left disappointed following further vandalism.
People living in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, have ‘adopted’ planters, while buying and watering plants to put in them.
However, the plants have regularly been ripped out, with barriers sprayed with graffiti, including ‘no LTNs’.
Quickways: What are they and where are they being introduced?
Theo Hopkins said: “We want to give the bollards a name, a personality.
“We loved the idea that taxis have now started dropping people off at the bollards to walk the last few minutes to their houses – we’ve heard people say ‘can you drop me at the Magdalen bollard?’
“And we’re starting games for children where they can follow clues to visit all the local bollards – it helps the community feel ownership of them.”
Sally Willis added: “It’s really sad – we wonder where these people come from.
“They obviously don’t care about our neighbourhood or local businesses.
“Who wants to visit somewhere with graffiti everywhere?”
