Thunderstorm warnings across Oxford have been extended by the Met Office.
Initial weather warnings from the forecaster warned of thunderstorms hitting the area on Monday, but that has now been extended to include Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
The Met Office are warning of “torrential rain” in the region, which could bring “possible disruption”.
The warning which comes into effect Monday morning and will run until midnight on Wednesday.
What to expect from thunderstorm warning in Oxford
This is what the Met Office is warning to expect as thunderstorms hit the region this week:
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
- There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
A Met Office spokesman added: “Whilst some places will miss them, thunderstorms and areas of heavy rain will develop quite widely on Wednesday across the southern England.
“20-30 mm of rain is possible within an hour, but where areas of thundery rain become slow-moving, some places could see 60 mm in less than three hours.
“A few spots could see more rainfall than this still, whilst hail and lightning may be additional hazards.”
