RWE npower's decision to defer using Thrupp Lake as an ash dumping site (Oxford Mail, February 19) is a great relief to all of us who have been fighting to save it for the residents of Oxfordshire.
Thrupp Lake is a well-loved and much-used area of natural beauty and its destruction would have been a loss for all of us.
I want to thank the Save the Radley Lakes campaigners for their incredibly energetic and effective campaigning and npower for taking its responsibility to the Radley and Abingdon communities seriously in the end.
On Saturday, February 9, I joined all the selected Parliamentary candidates in Oxford West and Abingdon in a cross-party pledge of support for this campaign not because I am Nicola Blackwood, Parliamentary Candidate' and not because I am Nicola Blackwood, Conservative', but because I am Nicola Blackwood, resident of Oxford'.
I see it as my social responsibility to follow the example of people like the Save the Radley Lakes campaigners and play an active part in protecting my community.
Today everyone can help by donating to Save the Radley Lakes at www.savetheradleylakes.org.uk so that we can all continue to work together for a positive result at the judicial review of the town green application and ensure that Thrupp Lake is safeguarded for future generations.
