THE regular evening broadcast of ITV News Meridian was cancelled at 6pm this evening (10) due to a fire alarm.
The system went off about five minutes before the show, which is filmed in Whiteley, Hampshire, was due to start.
Presenters had to leave the tower and stand outside while Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service checked the building was safe to re-enter.
In a statement on Twitter, ITV News Meridian said: “Due to technical problems, ITV Meridian viewers in the south, south east and Thames Valley will receive ITV London at 6pm this evening.
“We apologise for any inconvenience. Tune in for the late news tonight - when ITV Meridian will be back with our regional programming.”
