ARTIST impressions of two proposed railway stations in Oxford have been drawn up.

The stations would serve the east and south of the city, with artist drawings showing what they could look like.

Oxford East Station would serve the Oxford Business Park area, while Oxford South Station would cater for Oxford Science Park.

Reopening the Cowley Branch Line for passengers is crucial to the plans, with it currently only used by freight trains going to and from the BMW Mini Plant.

Early proposals indicate a half-hourly service running to/from London Marylebone (via Oxford Train Station), with trains taking as little as seven to nine minutes from the new stations, to the centre of the city, and providing direct connections to Oxford Parkway and Bicester.

Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds has been a vocal supporter in reopening the Cowley Branch Line.

After meeting business leaders earlier this summer, she said: “Since our last walk in 2019, so much progress has been made on getting the line reopened to passengers, and it was so exciting to see physical plans for the railway.

“However, we can’t be complacent and I am grateful to everyone who joined to keep the momentum going and show the level of support that the project has in Oxford.”

Duncan Enright, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for travel and development strategy, added: “Cowley Branch Line will be transformative for people in the county.

“I am impatient, as we all are, to see it built, so it is a pleasure to see the plans developing at pace.”
