Sir - After reading the article about Jamie Oliver's plans to bring "real Italian food" to Oxford, (February 8) I was rather miffed on behalf of the excellent Italian restaurants dotted around Oxford, which include Carluccio's and Gino's in Central Oxford and Mario's on Cowley Road.
However the one that stands out for me is La Cucina in St Clements. I wouldn't know if their chef was an 'Italian stallion' like Mr Oliver's mentor, (I'm a married woman and try not to notice these things), but they do cook modern, innovative and extremely tasty Italian food; they do things with cabbages that I never thought possible!
So perhaps someone could tell Mr Oliver, it's great to have another Italian restaurant, but he's following an illustrious tradition, not starting one.
