Sir - Our multicultural society has embraced the Muslims and their religion but I wish to protest that their call to prayer is now to be heard across Oxford.
Oxford is a historic city and embracing should not come to mean being overpowered by. It is important to preserve the traditions and historical background of our city, and not to allow it to be swamped by other cultures. If it really is felt so necessary to call Muslims to prayer perhaps it could be done, as must have been the original way, without using electronic amplifiers or megaphones. This would at least reduce the noise and nuisance factor.
