It was with great interest that I read county councillor Bob Johnston's letter about the old Oxford LMS/LNWR railway station, known as Rewley Road, with the ancient and modern pictures (Oxford Mail, January 19).
Having travelled from the station a number of times behind a steam locomotive, I followed the fortune of it with interest, as no doubt did many Oxford residents.
Since being moved to Quainton, off the Bicester-Aylesbury road, and restored to former glories, it has provided a magnificent headquarters for the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.
As well as a shop, refreshment rooms and offices, it contains a number of excellent exhibits, including an old Great Western Castle class locomotive and vintage carriages.
The centre has an excellent museum and a miniature railway providing rides, which is loved by children young and old.
It is open every Sunday from March to October, plus, on occasions, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays, a steam train is in operation, giving unlimited rides.
Thomas and friends will be in operation over Easter from Friday, March 21, until Monday, March 24.
How many of the former protesters and Oxford residents have been to see this part of Oxford history?
Do pay a visit. I am sure you will be delighted.
AUBREY HUGHES Hon treasurer Buckinghamshire Railway Centre
