A fire broke out in an Oxford fish and chip shop tonight on the first day of national chip week.
The fryers at the branch of Posh Fish, in London Road, caught fire at around 8pm this evening.
Fire crews from the Slade and Rewley Road fire stations managed to bring the flames under control within 30 minutes.
Six fire fighters using breathing apparatus tackled the fire underneath the deep fat fryer range inside the shop.
Group manager Richard Bowley said thick smoke made conditions difficult when firemen entered the building.
He explained the fire was not being treated as malicious, although a full investigation was under way tonight.
Manager Marta Abreu said: "We don't know what caused this accident. Luckily there were only three customers inside and we all got out OK."
The owner, who declined to be named, said: "This was a small fire and nobody was hurt."
Traffic was diverted off London Road while emergency crews dealt with the blaze. Although the road is now open.
