The proposal to close Crowmarsh Gifford post office shows a complete lack of knowledge of its importance.
It serves not only Crowmarsh Gifford but surrounding villages - Benson, RAF Benson, Ewelme, North Stoke - and many Wallingford residents who are dissatisfied with the service they receive.
The Post Office suggests that people are able to visit other offices. But queues are the norm at Wallingford post office most days. The Post Office claims it has a level access - in fact it has ramps. RAF Benson post office is rarely open and residents would require an official pass to enter a secure area. Benson has a tiny post office and the office at Brightwell-cum-Sotwell is in the village hall.
Crowmarsh Gifford post office does not rely on financial support - due to hard work and the friendly attitude to its customers, it makes a profit for the Post Office. Our village has more people working in it than residents - workers at the business park, South Oxfordshire District Council, the Environment Agency and many more use the post office.
Many people work from home.
The fat cats of the Post Office would be better employed visiting their local offices to see how they work, serving and supporting communities.
They seem more interested in increasing their salaries, pensions and bonuses, and advertising Broadband and insurance than giving the public a reliable and efficient post service.
The Freepost envelope for people to post their comments to the "consultation team" has no address.
Presumably, it is planned to dump all comments in the rubbish bin - that's if the envelope arrives by the deadline.
