A TEAM of pupils will go on to debate important issues after winning first place in a competition.
Abingdon School entered five teams in the Abingdon Rotary Club's YouthSpeak public speaking competition.
And a team from the lower school - Luke Carter, 13, Tom Sishton, 12, and Edmund Lewis, 13 - came out on top in their division.
The team will now go on to compete in the final in Witney.
Topics they discussed included health and safety laws, the world of sharks, whether Latin should be taught in all schools, the ways of the Samurai and why everyone should believe in achieving the impossible.
Philip Gardner, aged 16, from Long Wittenham, also did exceptionally well in the competition.
His speech, entitled Impossible is Nothing, was marked out as one of the best pieces that the Rotary Club had heard recently and received enthusiastic praise from the judges.
