FIREFIGHTERS were called after a fire broke out in an elderly people's care home last night.
Two crews from Rewley Road and Abingdon attended the scene after an elderly man accidentally set fire to a chair in the ground floor lounge of the Mon Choisy residential care home in Kennington Road at about 11.30pm.
Residents were moved to another part of the building while fire crews extinguished the flames and ventilated the room.
Station manager Julian Green said no one was seriously injured but the ambulance service was called as a precaution.
Praising staff for their quick thinking and good fire safety procedures, he added: "If all that had not happened, potentially we could have had a real problem."
