THIEVES have been targeting cars parked at Oxford Parkway railway station, stealing expensive catalytic converters.

One driver, who has asked to remain anonymous, had her anti-pollution device stolen from her Volkswagen Beetle, which was parked at the station in Oxford Road at Water Eaton, on Monday.

Having parked her car to commute to work in Summertown, she discovered the theft on her return at 3pm.

"I turned the engine on and there something seriously wrong," she said. "The exhaust was extremely loud. I'm not an expert in cars but I knew something wasn't right.

"I saw another woman turn on her car and she had the same thing happen. I spoke to her and she must have known more about cars than me as she said she had checked underneath, and her catalytic converter was stolen."

The motorist took her car to a garage the next day, where mechanics were able to confirm that her catalytic converter had been cut out.

"I assume the other lady had the same issue," she said. "There was another man who had a tow bar stolen from his car on the same day in that car park – right in the middle of the day.

"I think it must be a targeted place. I've had to get the bus into work now which is annoying.

"I just want to warn others about it now."
