ROADS across Oxfordshire started to melt yesterday (19) as temperatures reached record-breaking highs of 40 degrees.

Reports were made to Oxfordshire County Council’s FixMyStreet website about several roads across the county.

Parts of the B4016 in Didcot, heading from Hagbourne to Blewbury, were affected with residents describing it as “in an awful state”.

On the Facebook group, Spotted Didcot, another resident described the road as “smelling” and said they had “never seen anything like it”.

Drivers were also warned about the Baynards Green Road in Bicester on the Facebook group, Bicester Chat. A resident described the B4100 road as having “totally melted with huge strips of it ripping out and chunks of it flying up hitting the windscreen”.

They added that one part of the road had “turned to liquid” and it was like “driving on a wet road after rain”.
