ELDERLY people living in a retirement complex are worried after their water stopped working overnight and temperatures are expected to reach highs of 37°C.

The water at Kingsgate, in Cote Road, Aston, stopped working today (18).  

Richard Hubbert, who has lived in the complex for about 25 years, said all the nearby shops and garages have sold out of water and people are starting to get worried.

He said he called Thames Water to ask for “emergency water bottles” but said the company “refused” due to individuals not being registered as “vulnerable users”.

He said: “We can’t register as vulnerable users as the landlord pays Thames Valley and we pay the landlord.

“It’s quite worrying as hydration is incredibly important and we have quite a few people here that it will cause an issue for if someone doesn’t help us soon.”

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “This morning our engineers have been fixing an issue with a pressure valve in the OX18 area.

“Customers should see their water returning this morning but at lower pressures than normal. I’ve contacted our 24hr customer care team asking them to arrange for an engineer to drop bottled water to the Kingsgate Estate in Aston.

“Customers can register for this service without their account number. Carers, friends or family can also complete the priority services register form on behalf of someone they think could benefit from extra support.

“We’re really sorry if customers are experiencing low pressure or experienced no water this morning, especially during this heatwave.”
