A woman suffered a fractured nose after being punched and kicked by another woman.
The victim was attacked outside the HSBC bank in Market Place at about 10.15pm on Saturday. Police only released details today.
After an argument, she was punched and kicked, leaving her with a fractured nose and bruising to her face, said Pc Gary Hoy.
Police said the woman who assaulted her is white with below-shoulder-length, light-brown or blonde hair. She was wearing a three-quarter-length green-and-white striped top with a belt, and boots.
She left with a group of men and headed towards the High Street. Pc Hoy said: "This was a nasty attack that left the victim with bad facial injuries and it has severely shaken her confidence.
"At 10.15pm on Saturday, the market square would have been a busy place with many people going to and fro, and I am certain people would have seen this assault.
"If you did, or heard someone boasting about it later, please get in touch."
