I am a parent of a child at Cheney School, The wrong trousers (Oxford Mail, February 2).
I have to agree that there was little consultation about the rather sudden change in uniform enforcement, with inconsistency among teachers on the unclear rules.
Some allow dolly shoes and boots, others do not.
Dozens of children were sent to the dining hall, and from there, either sent home or sent to 'isolation' where they stayed all day, being escorted by a teacher when they needed a toilet break.
The children are expected to ask permission to remove their sweatshirts, and hats and gloves are confiscated in the playground.
All this seems to be a little extreme, as children do need time to adjust to this new regime.
Yes, uniform is smart, but there are, I feel, more important issues at Cheney which need priority.
Headteacher Jolie Kirby is wrong when she says it is not a financial issue.
Many parents, myself included, are unable to meet the cost of this so far into their child's education.
The straight-legged jeans are smart and comfortable and easily affordable, being available at Oxford's cheapest chain store.
Perhaps Mrs Kirby should have consulted parents of existing pupils before issuing such harsh and unnecessary punishments.
