Two Thames Valley Police officers will face a misconduct hearing for allegedly lying about how they damaged a marked police car, by blaming it on hitting a deer.

The public misconduct hearing will take place on between Tuesday 26 and Friday 29 July 2022 at Thames Valley Police’s Headquarters in Kidlington in front of legally qualified chairperson, Mr John Bassett.

The hearing is in connection with an incident that happened on October 7 2020 when PC Brandish and PC Jones, who were both based at Oxford police station, were on duty together.

When they were returning to the police station, the officers stopped at Redbridge Park and Ride on Abingdon Road, where PC Brandish’s car was parked, to move it closer to the station due to the bad weather.

However, as they were leaving the car park PC Brandish’s car and the marked police car - driven by PC Jones - were involved in a collision which caused damage to the police car.

Once back at the police station it is alleged that PC Jones told their Sergeant that he had hit a deer, in order to explain the damage to the police car.

It is alleged that PC Brandish breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to Honesty and Integrity, Orders and Instruction, Duties and Responsibilities, and Challenging and Reporting Improper Conduct.

It is alleged that PC Jones breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to Honesty and Integrity, Orders and Instruction and Duties and Responsibilities.

If the allegations are proven, it would amount to gross misconduct for which dismissal would be justified.

This is a public hearing and available space will limit numbers of people attending to six people, including members of the media.

Anyone who has not pre-registered by midday on Friday 22 July 2022 will not be allowed in the hearing.
