COVID cases in Oxfordshire have gone up again in the last week.
The total went up from 1,948 to 2,100 in one week, an increase of 7.8 per cent, putting the infection rate at 301.3 per 100,000 of the population.
In Oxford, the number of cases went from 450 to 470 in one week – a 4.4 per cent increase, putting the infection rate at 310.1.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the community is increasing, and so is the number of COVID-19 patients in our hospitals.

The highest number of cases was reported in Oxford Central, where 41 people tested positive.

Cases for other areas are as follows: East Central Oxford, 40; North Central Oxford, 21; Summertown, 14; Marston, 22; Headington, 41; Osney, Jericho & Port Meadow, 23; Grandpont & New Hinksey, 22; Churchill, 15; Cowley South & Iffley, 39; Cowley North, 29.
Covid infections continue to rise across the UK, driven by the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.

Meanwhile, the number of people in hospital in England who have tested positive for covid stood at 12,283 on July 8, up 31 per cent week-on-week and close to the peak reached during the BA.2 wave.
The majority of people in hospital who test positive for Covid-19 are being primarily treated for something else rather than the virus.
However, those with covid symptoms serious enough to require mechanical ventilator beds stood at 228 on July 8, the highest number for two months, although much lower than early pandemic peaks.
