LTN bollards in Oxford again vandalised and removed

Photos sent to the Oxford Mail show a Magdalen Road bollard has been taken out, and seemingly dumped in St Mary’s Road.

Meanwhile, a Leopold Street bollard appears to have been knocked down, while a Bullingdon Road bollard has also been removed.

Amir Steve Ali stood as an Independent candidate in the Oxford City Council elections earlier this year, finishing second behind Labour’s Jemima Hunt in the St Clement’s ward.

While he is anti-LTN, he urged people stop vandalising bollards and planters.

He said: “I’m anti-LTNs, but nobody should break the law. The ones who are doing this must be caught.

“LTNs have caused big problems in East Oxford and to get them removed, it must be done in a legal way without breaking the law.

“Once again, please stop this vandalism.”

Last month, Oxfordshire County Council revealed it had spent £12,000 on repairs to bollards and planters in East Oxford, just a month into the scheme.

The LTNs, which are in the Divinity Road, St Clement’s, and St Mary’s areas, were consulted on between March and June 2021.

The divisive trial scheme was approved in December, with the council’s leader, Liz Leffman, making the delegated decision.
