AN Oxfordshire MP has said Boris Johnson’s resignation is “the best thing for the country”.
This morning the Prime Minister spoke to Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down as party leader.
A spokesperson for Number 10 said the PM will make a statement to the country later today.
More than 50 members of the government have resigned since Tuesday, when cabinet ministers Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid handed in their resignation letters.

John Howell, a conservative who represents Henley in the House of Commons, said that the Prime Minister’s resignation would be the best thing for the Government.
He said: “In my discussion with the Whips and others I have indicated my view that he should step down. I understand that he has now said that he will resign.
“I think this is the best thing for the country and for a successful Government.
“However I deplore the way this has come about. We shall now need to wait to see how this develops. I am not going to comment further.”
