POLICE were called to throw yobs from a gay bar after they filmed pub goers and made homophobic insults and gestures.

Staff at The Jolly Farmers, in Paradise Street, Oxford, attempted to kick out the group of about 10 young people after they disturbed customers at about 9.50pm on Saturday.

However, instead of leaving, the group reportedly stole foam protectors from scaffolding opposite the bar and made what staff called "offensive gestures" while hitting each other.

Staff then called police who showed up just before 10.30pm to remove the louts.

A pub goer, who asked to stay anonymous, said: "It is concerning to experience homophobic behaviour in what is considered a safe space in the city.

"It just shows that LGBTQ+ prejudice still exists and is exactly the reason we need pride."
